Giving Jack a "bedroom"

So I've turned the little cupboard under the stairs in the basement my work office. I was working there and Jack was at my feet. He's getting so big that I really don't have much space.  I was looking at the wall behind the monitor on the desk and realized that behind that wall was probably some space since the stairs go down and then turn right at that point.

I got a knife and cut into the drywall to create a hole and sure enough, it was just as I thought.  There is about a 6 ft x 8ft space right there that is about 28 inches high.  In fact, there are some electrical wires right there to provide electricity to the other rooms outside of that.  So I bought some more wire, some electrical boxes and switches, etc.  And wired in a switch and a light.  I got some padding and put in there.  Jack now responds to "Got get in your bedroom" as I point to the rug that covers the entrance to his room.  

He'll go in there and nap for quite a while while I work throughout the day. Sometimes when I kick off a build (compiling source code) that takes a while. I'll crawl in there and chill with him.

Jack loves hiking and kayaking

 We've done a lot of hiking, duck stalking at Jensen, and kayaking.  He is very good about fetching and dropping his ball.  He is good about not having any accidents, and we've packed the crate up since I now work all the time from home.  I'm able to be with him all the time.  If I have to leave I'll put him in the back yard.

I bought a fake pheasant along with some scent.  I rub the scent on the bird and then put Jack in the shed so he can't see. I'll go hide it somewhere in the yard. Even in places that are hidden pretty well. I'll rip the door open and yell "Find it!" He goes nuts trying to sniff out that bird. I know he can sniff it because he'll pass by it and immediately turn back and sniff until he narrows it down.  He is amazing!

Jack, my work buddy

 Jack is now nearly 4 months and with Covid-19 issues, I'm working from home.  He spends his day right at my feet under my desk and I take him out that basement door to pee on a regular basis.  Here's a short video of him bringing me his little duck toy which he absolutely loves. 

Sometimes it's a long day and he get's bored.

12 1/2 weeks = 87 days

 Jack can wade thru the small stream at Jensen park to get to me on the other side. He's only done it in two sessions so he's still a bit hesitant. But he's getting it. His fetch is so much better. He drops the ball right at my feet instead of 6 feet in front of me.  

When I'd ask to bring his Dad over to play, Timber, he would go pick up the ball and then drop it about five away.  So I'm quite pleased I can get Jack to bring all the way to me.  I have him trained to drop it where I'm pointing, right at my feet.  I'll make a circular motion right at my feet indicating I want it in that zone.  If he drops it short, I'll say "Bring it", and make the circular motion.  I won't pick it up. I'll make him get it to me to earn the treat proper.

When I get home from work he goes berzerk. I like how he loves me!

10 weeks old

 Jack is 71 days today and he has several toys we've been using to teach him to fetch.  Which he can now do.  He is so dang smart. He sleeps in his crate for the first few hours of the night.  Then at midnight once he wakes up for his mid night pee, I then take him to bed with me.  

Last night he only had to go up once in the night. He is getting bigger and in a couple weeks hits his 3 month birthday. He is so dang fun!

Grandma and Grandpa Low went on vacation so they left Willy with us. So Jack and Willy are getting to be friends.

Jack's first booster - 65 days

 Jack got a booster 3 days ago with Makenzie.  He's getting bigger. We found a good reclusive trail in Hooper to go on walks where we can go without a leash safely and we didn't see any other walkers or dogs.  He is getting better about being in the crate without crying.

But I admit, I love cuddling him at night so he spends most of the night with me in bed and I take him out every few hours to go pee.

He's such a good dog. He is sold on site, and he is starting to fetch his chew toys and bring them to me without much training.  I love it!
